Weight Loss: Week 4
Hello friends. This post was delayed due to a wonderful trip to Newport, RI. It was a last minute surprise from Cam and I didn't have a chance to weigh-in, but I wanted to discuss my attempts at portion control during our mini vacation.
I'm Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing when her father says "Baby wants to send her leftover pot roast to Southeast Asia" - I HATE wasting food, it seriously makes me cringe. While I think this is primarily a good trait, it's probably led to a few extra pounds over the years.
Accepting that I may waste some food was the first step to enjoying our vacation, but not killing my weight loss progress thus far. I knew we would be drinking and usually eat carbs before I start drinking heavily. I ended up ordering a lunch size portion of pasta and only ate half of it... half the calories with a side of guilt. ;)
The second decision I made towards portion control was sharing a steak with Cameron at dinner... rather than ordering our own separate entrees, we shared one and again, cut our calories in half. Lastly, while I used to to end "party nights" with water and heavy carbs, Cam and I ended Saturday night sharing a crab cake appetizer from The Red Parrot: a single crab cake for each of us.
I had a mix of wine and vodka throughout the day, but never felt uncomfortably full or deprived. While I was by no means dieting this past weekend, I'm happy with the little choices I made. I'm jumping back on my diet tomorrow and excited to weigh-in this Saturday. xoxo!
